Arabic Dancer at the Gay Parade After Party NYC 2011

For all the homophobes in Arabia we took an Arabic Belly Dancer down to the Gay Parade After Party for a taste of American Freedom.  If you check out our Facebook page we will be compiling links from places like Iran where a father sits on a road bathed in his sons blood after he jumps from a bridge to avoid being taken back to jail where the secret police used  homosexual rape as torture on him.  Yet the Secret Police also prosecute Homosexuality which is illegal in Iran.  If reading from outside USA, the freedoms ordinary Americans enjoy had to be fought for.  Proof that causing a Riot for a good reason and not giving up can lead to amazing freedom and parties!

As the city government of Moscow just canceled their scheduled 2011 Gay Pride Parade and Eastern Europe as a whole are still some of the most repressive countries in the world regarding Homosexual rights.   Once transplanted to New York City, all that homophobia becomes old world nonsense for a sexy Russian Girl exploring the Gay Parade After Party in New York City’s Greenwich Village!

Forget the Velvet Ropes, at the Gay Parade After Party on the Hudson River off Christopher Street all are welcome to get down and get funky.  Making this public party one of the only events in America to even come close to matching Rio’s Carnival open display of sexual freedom.   Only in New York City can one walk down the street in outlandish outfits as since in this book, with the kind of attitude that says “what you looking at!”

Russian Girl at the Gay Parade follows humble Russian Girl, Olena Ierega as she takes a tour of Greenwich Village with West Village native photographer, Garvey Rich, to capture amazing street fashion and spontaneous pictures that have nothing to do with celebrities and everything to do with the true face of the alive and kicking Gay Pride Movement in New York City. Featuring an amazing display of homemade fashion mixed with pride, joy and a tour de force fashionable Sneaker display.

While Gay rights are still limited around the world, minorities in America are also doing their own soul searching as Rapper Lil B titled his recent album “I’m Gay” even though he isn’t – in an attempt to break sexual orientation barriers in the rap and hip-hop community – and reportedly lost fans and received death threats.  Yet as seen in this book, there is no lack of minority representation at the Gay Parade After Party!

Author and photographer Garvey Rich tells his story of what it was like growing up as a boy in Greenwich Village when the Stonewall Riots sparked the Gay Pride Movement and marched down the block he lived.   Telling a usually unheard of perspective of what it was like growing up a straight male just a few blocks from the Gay Mecca of America Christopher Street.  He has dedicated the book to his Grandmother Jenny whose family fought their way out of the pogroms of Russia to get to New York City, juxtaposing his families fight for freedom to the Gay Pride Movement.

Russian Girl, Olena Ierega, writes about the pervasive homophobia still prevalent in her hometown in the Ukraine.

Even after Moscow was fined by the European Court of Human Rights for not allowing a Gay Pride Parade, Moscow authorities will not budge, not granting a permit for a public demonstration of Gay Pride.  Gay Pride organizers in Moscow vow to go ahead with their parade regardless fueling worries of violent confrontations with government backed Skin Heads and Cossacks groups.

Russian Girl at the Gay Parade is Art Directed and Illustrated by world famous art director Mark Weinburg, known for his work with artist James Rizzi, photographer Lynn Goldsmith and album covers for The Ramones, The Clash, Burning Spear & Naughty by Nature Logo & covers to name a few.
